Since 1975, Linda has been committed to the mission of Kazoo School, dedicating her time and talents to provide a Kazoo education for any child who needed it.
With a team of other community members, Linda helped find our current home at 1401 Cherry Street and continued to watch it grow to be the Kazoo we know today. When funding was secured through the Kalamazoo Community Foundation to add our Middle School, Linda was at the forefront. Linda’s motivation came from the benefit she saw in her own two children attending Kazoo school. While navigating being a single mother of two, she supported Kazoo by volunteering as much as possible. She worked countless fundraisers, including Bingo Sundays and as the volunteer Business Manager from 2020-2023. It is because of her grant writing that we have been able to maintain our historic building, providing a safe space for children to enter from their outdoor learning. Through all of her time spent with this community, Linda met her husband Nick, who has worked alongside her as the Community Coordinator. Linda’s undeniable love and commitment to this school was passed on to her daughter, Sonita, our fearless leader and former teacher and parent of Kazoo students. Linda was the rock that made it possible for Sonita to support teachers, students, and families at Kazoo.
