Emergency Planning
Kazoo School Drill Schedule
All schools are required to conduct 5 fire drills, 2 tornado drills, and 3 shelter drills each school year. In addition, we are required to post information on each drill after it is conducted to our website.
These are the drills that have been conducted in the 2023-2024 school year:
Fire Drills: 9/14/23, 11/16/23
Shelter Drills: 11/3/23, 1/26/24
Tornado Drill: 10/10/23
Sonita Newbury-Schau, Head of School, and the faculty of Kazoo School are the people who are responsible for conducting these drills.
Risk Management
Kazoo School has a Risk Management committee whose work is to identify areas of risk, whether external or internal and create a plan of action if any needs arise. The Risk Management Committee began meeting a year ago to look at procedures and policies faculty and staff follow to ensure the safety of the students. They are working to provide each teacher with an emergency bag to be used on all field trips. They also worked with a local security expert to identify areas of the physical space we can update and improve to increase safety. We also have an Emergency Operations Plan in place that has been approved by the Mike Corfman, Kalamazoo County Emergency Manager.
